Magnus Carlsen raves about Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa

Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa became a grandmaster at the age of twelve. At the World Cup in Baku he was recently the most conspicuous player. His boisterous and dynamic style earns him many compliments.

At the World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, which ended on Thursday, the most conspicuous player was Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. Friends and family call the lively boy, who became a grandmaster at the age of twelve, Praggu. Colleagues and commentators simply stick to Prague.

Against the French Maxime Lagarde and the Hungarian Ferenc Berkes (see position in the diagram) he conjured up attacking games that will be remembered from this World Cup. Prague turned 18 during the knockout competition. On the way to the final he beat Hikaru Nakamura among others and relegated the other strong American Fabiano Caruana to the match for third place.
