Fifth in Ligue 1 at the end of the 2023-24 season, LOSC qualified for the play-offs of the next edition of the Europa League Conference. A few days before the draw, it’s time to take stock.
At the start of the 2022-23 financial year, the Mastiffs had not given themselves a priority objective, other than the launch of a new sports project, at least for the general public. A position that evolved over the days, while LOSC won in the fight for European qualification. At the end of this long journey, the Lille team managed to pocket the bet, by qualifying for the play-offs of the next edition of the Europa League Conference. A complex competition in many aspects.
Started on July 13, with a first qualifying round, the Europa League Conference is currently at a more advanced stage, but still far from the crucial issues for the future of LOSC. Engaged in the play-offs, the Mastiffs will know their opponent on August 7 in Nyon, date and place of the draw, before competing on August 24 (go) and 31 (return).
LOSC, with a coefficient of 30,000, find themselves in pot 1, alongside renowned teams such as Eintracht Frankfurt, Dinamo Kiev, Fenerbahçe and Aston Villa and will face non-seeds, present in the pot 2. To simplify the draw, groups are formed as follows:
– three from 8 clubs (4 seeded and 4 unseeded)
– one of 10 clubs (5 seeded and 5 unseeded)
If the Mastiffs manage to take this first step, they will then go through the group stage. At present, it is still difficult to decide on the identity of the clubs present in the different hats that will compose them. The future of Lille training depends on the results of certain clubs in the Europa League, but also on the teams involved in this play-off phase with a better coefficient than LOSC. It is the UEFA coefficient of the latter which will adjust the exact position of the Mastiffs. A presence in pot 1 would allow them to face a more comfortable opponent, on paper.
