Ligue 2: another defeat and red card … The incredible breakdown of Paris FC in Grenoble

After the defeat against Caen last week (2-0), Paris FC intended to bring something back from Grenoble, during the 2nd day this Saturday. And it was on the right track, as Gilli’s players dominated the first period. And then, crash after the break, the Parisians gradually died out, at the same time as the Grenoble residents, almost non-existent until now, suddenly grew bolder.

Shortly after the hour mark, two strokes of fate struck the Parisians, who never recovered. While Grenoble were leading a counter-attack, Touray, on the right side, sent an aerial ball to Tourraine, in the centre, at the entrance to the surface, which the young striker lodged in the skylight of Filipovic, from an acrobatic and somewhat miraculous volley (1-0, 63′).

A few minutes later, Mandouki, the captain, received a red card (like Gaudin the previous week against Troyes), for having irregularly stopped Joseph who, well launched on the right side, was heading to meet Filipovic (70th) .

At the end of the game, Sbaï, for good measure, exploited a new Parisian blunder, a ball lost near the surface, to advance quietly in the 16 meters and quite calmly double the bet in favor of the GF 38, d a shot from inside the left foot (2-0, 87th).

From the kick-off, however, the Parisians had shown themselves to be the most enterprising, despite the crushing heat at the Stade des Alpes in Grenoble – requiring a cool break after 24 minutes. While Kebbal twirled, Gory, on a ball from the left, touched the opposing post with a recovery from the outside of the heel (20th). Then, Hamel found himself in a duel situation against Maubleu, but without managing to deceive the Isérois goalkeeper (38th).

On the Grenoble side, on the other hand, there was hardly a slim chance to count in the first period: a low shot from Joseph quite calmly diverted by Filipovic however (40th).

In short, Paris FC was heading for a first victory, or a draw at worst. But that was without counting without the sudden widespread Parisian breakdown at the hour mark. In Paris this week, it is not the lines of work that will be lacking in perspective of the trip to Pau next Saturday evening (7 p.m.).

“The result is there: we took twice two goals, two red cards and scored zero points, underlined the Parisian coach Stéphane Gilli after the match. We had a consistent first half, maybe we deserved better. We have to be stronger, fairer in our highlights. We did not imagine this scenario at the break in view of the first half, although I told the players to be vigilant. We knew that Grenoble was strong in the transition, that we were in danger when we had the ball and, alas, this scenario happened…”

The results of the 2nd day: Grenoble – Paris FC 2-0; Rodez – Saint-Etienne 2 – 1; Auxerre-Amiens 0-1; Bastia-Valenciennes 3-0; Angers-Annecy 0-0; Caen-Pau 2-0; Guingamp-Dunkirk 0-1; Troyes-Laval 3-1; Quevilly-Rouen – AC Ajaccio 0-1. Monday (8:45 p.m.): Bordeaux – Concarneau.
