Launch of Second Edition of Promotion of Least Practiced Sports to Raise Awareness on Waste Management in Lomé

The second edition of the promotion of the least practiced sports was officially launched this Saturday, August 12, 2023 in Lomé. A launch ceremony presided over by officials of the Autonomous District of Grand Lomé in the presence of the representative of the commune Golfe 1.

The objective of this event of the Urban Environment Project of Lomé (PEUL) is to use sport as an essential vector to communicate or raise awareness among the population about the problems of waste management within the districts of Greater Lomé, particularly in the 13 Municipalities.

“Sport and Development is an activity that the Grand Lomé District Authorities initiated following the PEUL project in its fourth component, which aims to promote sport and use this sport as a tool for communication and awareness-raising on issues related to waste management in the Autonomous District of Grand Lomé, particularly in the 13 Communes,” said Laré Djouabik, Head of Sports and Development Activities in the Autonomous District of Grand Lomé.

The official also returned to the major projects that are included in component four, in particular, the construction of sports equipment which is planned in two communes of Grand, namely in Golfe 1 where the Kpota land is located and in the commune of Agoe. -Nyivé 4 on the ground of Kotokoli Zongo.

During the ten days, the 43 animators will be responsible for carrying out the different activities on two sites (Kotokoli Zongo-Bè Kpota GER). The children responding to the calls of the organizers will be equipped with the fundamentals of the least visible disciplines, namely: badminton, volleyball, rugby.

“They are in the initiation phase. They must know, what is the shuttlecock and the racket. There, they will begin to familiarize themselves with the shuttlecock,” underlined Tchatakora Abass, one of the badminton trainers.

Same opinion in the Volleyball camp where children are trained on the basics of this discipline.

“We are teaching the children how to play volleyball, especially techniques like the touch and the overhand. Children aged four must have fun with the ball. We take the opportunity to teach them the basics of volleyball,” explained Klutse Akossiwa Fafali, one of the trainers.

Note that the activities will end on August 23rd.
