Latvia’s 3×3 basketball players were supposed to meet Kyrgyzstan and India on Wednesday, but the tournament was canceled due to the weather and 14 of the 20 scheduled games will be played today. Latvia is represented in this tournament by last year’s European vice-champions in the U-17 group Toms Markus Salnājs, Jānis Censonis, Edvards Egle and Kristiāns Artis Pastors. In subgroup D, Latvians also have to meet Ukraine and Israel.

The winners of the first two places in the subgroup will fight for medals in the elimination tournament on Sunday, September 3. In the quarter-finals, the best teams of Group D will meet the first and second place winners of Subgroup B (Brazil, Estonia, Morocco, Serbia and Slovenia).

In the women’s competition, Latvia will be represented by Amanda Baumgarte, Elīna Briede, Annija Brence and Katrīna Miller. The Latvians are ranked number 14 and will compete in subgroup A, where the opponents will be the teams of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Tunisia and Chile. In the quarter-finals on Sunday, September 3, the two best teams of subgroup A will play against the best teams of group C (Japan, Lithuania, Morocco, Spain, Ukraine).

In the U-18 World Cup, the best achievements of Latvian basketball players so far have been the fifth place in the men’s competition in 2022 and the sixth place in the women’s tournament in 2021.
