La Travessia de Roses is 86 years old in very good health

The second oldest swimming crossing in Catalonia (only surpassed by the one in Banyoles) returned this past weekend to Roses to celebrate his 86th edition. And he did it in excellent form, living one new participation success with over 150 swimmers gathering in the bay. “It is a classic event where people are already combining it to come and, the truth, we are very happy to be able to celebrate it again in total normality”, assured the sports director ofThe Roses Water Sports GroupDavid Miralta.

The proper names of the day were Nil Ibañez and Júlia Coll, winners of the main event, the two kilometer one, with times of 21’04” and 23’22”, but the figure floating in the waters of the gulf was that of David Herruzo. This year, the record fifth Memorial Award was given to those who “made it possible for the GEN to stop being just a yachting club to also be a swimming club, going from a modest section to a very well structured one with male and female swimmers of great projection”, as he recalled Josep Maria Isern, president of the GEN, before the delivery of this trophy to the first club member to reach the finish line. Like last year, these were Angel Oliver (short crossing, 1 km) i Pablo Domènech (long, 2 km), receiving them from the hand of the widow of Herruzo, Judit Costa.

In total, however, there are 13 awards that were given in Roses, and with such a caliber of awards, the authorities could not be missing, with the presence of the mayor Josep Maria Martínez and the Councilor for Sports, Miguel Muñoz. Both paid tribute to the winners Ibañez and Coll in addition to, among others, Josep Pochbest veteran, or Alex Krumovthe youngest.

“When you get in the water you fight individually against the clock, but when you get out and find yourself at the GEN, you are like a big family”, concluded the mayor.
