La Mole wants to be like Comic-Con; will hold the second convention of 2023 – El Sol de México

La Mole was born as a meeting point for fans of comics and its evolution has gone to such an extent that today it can emulate the famous Comic-Con in San Diego. Only in its last edition, in March of this year, it was attended by 36 thousand people, which left a spill of 23 million pesos.

Jorge Hermosillo, general manager of La Mole, explained that this event generates its profits mainly from ticket sales. Although in 1996, during the first edition of La Mole, the cost of tickets was approximately 20 pesos, currently, tickets range between 500 and 800 pesos.

“After 27 years in the business we may be able to host the event twice a year, it’s highly likely that hosting these types of events will be profitable. However, it is not an easy task,” Hermosillo said in an interview with El Sol de México.

La Mole was born as a space for buying and selling items related to pop culture, where fans can find collectible comics, as well as dolls, clothes or items related to one of their favorite characters. In addition, in this event you can find the creators of comics, movie characters and performance.

For this second edition of the year, La Mole announced that the event will have a specific theme: anime. La Animole, as it was announced, will be on September 29 and 30, and on October 1 at the World Trade Center Convention Center in Mexico City.

“We seek to celebrate the love and passion for anime, manga, and Japanese culture in Mexico and Latin America, without clearly neglecting what characterized the convention from the beginning: pop culture, comics, movies, and collecting”, commented Hermosillo.

The event will feature leading guests such as cosplayers, dubbing artists, scriptwriters, writers, fighters, and actors, as well as visiting more than 190 artist stands, from designers, illustrators, and national and international artists to share their Mexican-Japanese-influenced art. .

Regarding the advancement of Artificial Intelligence, Hermosillo commented that although they still see it as something distant, there is fear that AI could be exploited to manipulate the image and work of artists, as has happened with Hollywood actors who They fight for control of their representations.

“Although AI promises to revolutionize the creation of content and industries, it is necessary to apply rigorous regulations to protect the rights and safety of all those involved,” said Jorge Hermosillo.

STRIKE IMPACTS IN HOLLYWOOD

The general director of La Mole revealed that the strike that takes place in the Hollywood film industry in the city of Los Angeles, California, ended up affecting the organization of the event, since several guests who had already confirmed their attendance will not be able to do it because of union restrictions.

“When we are already organizing and preparing an event like La Mole, at the same time we are already planning the next one. Although the strike reduced our guest options, it allowed us to open the door to independent actors and artists who take advantage of a space like this to present their talent,” added Hermosillo.

Although La Mole understands that a technology such as Artificial Intelligence can revolutionize many industries, both art, cinema, and training in general will always need human talent and creativity.
