KRC Genk and Club Brugge Duel for New Defender in Transfer Market

The teams from the Jupiler Pro League have until September 5 to provide themselves with the necessary reinforcements, the majority of the clubs are therefore still busy with their homework on the mercato. This is also the case at KRC Genk and Club Brugge. The two would even duel each other for a new defender.

Both Genk and Club secured the necessary acquisitions early on during the summer mercato. At the end of the transfer period, movement is therefore mainly expected on the outgoing side at both clubs. But both the Limburgers and the West Flemish also want to further fine-tune their selection with targeted reinforcement. Especially for defense.

Spanish bargain

Blauw-Zwart has been looking for an extra defensive force for some time now. At Racing, a new striker is an absolute priority, but an extra man in the back does not seem to do any harm if there is a need to fight on three fronts. And now the two Belgian teams would be thinking of the same target. So claims AS that Arnau Comas is on their wish lists.

The 23-year-old youth product of FC Barcelona currently plays for FC Basel, where he usually plays in the starting line-up. But despite a current contract until mid-2026, Comas could still leave this summer for a limited amount of one or two million euros. That limited transfer fee naturally makes the Spaniard an extra interesting target.

Genk front runner

Club was also linked to the arrival of Comas at the beginning of this summer. But at AS we know that interest in Bruges has cooled somewhat in recent days. As a result, Genk would now take the transfer battle completely to itself. However, there is no breakthrough yet. The Limburgers probably first want certainty about a European autumn, or a large outgoing transfer, before they push through extra reinforcement.
