(Seoul = News 1) Correspondent Moon Dae-hyun = Ahn Se-young (21, Samsung Life Insurance), world number 1 in badminton women’s singles, will challenge for the 8th gold medal of the season at the World Badminton Federation (BWF) World Championships.

The Korean badminton team, including Ahn Se-young, will start the BWF World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark from the 21st (hereafter Korean time).

The national team is leaving only the Hangzhou Asian Games (AG) All Denmark World Championships and the BWF World Tour Super 1000 China Open. For this reason, this competition is expected to be an important stage to check the skills accumulated over the years.

In particular, Ahn Se-young, who reached the top of the world on the 1st, is trying to raise her confidence even more against AG while maintaining her position at the top through this tournament.

Ahn Se-young showed off a good start by winning consecutive victories at the India Open and the Indonesia Masters earlier this year, and then won the Jeonyeong Open, the most prestigious tournament in March.

In June, he won the Thailand Open and Singapore Open, followed by the Korea Open in July and the Japan Open, and won seven gold medals this season alone.

In the end, Ahn Se-young rose to No. 1 in the BWF rankings, beating Akane Yamaguchi (2nd place) of Japan, who had been unable to cross the wall.

It is the first time since Bang Soo-hyeon, the gold medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, that a Korean player has risen to No. 1 in the women’s singles world rankings.

Ahn Se-young, who is rewriting the history of badminton in Korea, is now looking towards the world championship. So far, no Korean badminton singles player has won the world championship.

Even Bang Su-hyeon, a gold medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, stayed in the runner-up in the 1993 British competition, so the world championships had no relationship with Korean players.

In the case of Ahn Se-yeong, she reached the semifinals at the World Championships in Japan last year when her skills were ripe, but lost to Yamaguchi and had to be satisfied with the bronze medal.

However, it is worth looking forward to winning the world championship for the first time this year.

Ahn Se-young is highly likely to meet Chen Yu-fei (3rd place, China) in the quarterfinals and face Yamaguchi or Tai Zi-ying (4th place, Taiwan) in the final, but she is full of confidence as she has experienced defeating them all this season.

Ahn Se-young threw a vote, saying, “There is no player who has not won this year. I will confidently compete like the world’s No. 1.”

Meanwhile, Jo Kim So-yeong (Incheon International Airport) and Gong Hee-yong (Jeonbuk Bank), who are ranked third in the world in women’s doubles with three wins this season, are also strong candidates for the gold medal.

Korea has not won the women’s doubles for 28 years since the 1995 Swiss World Championships Gil Yeong-ah and Jang Hye-ok pair.

In the women’s doubles, China’s Chen Qingchen-Zaipan pair (ranked first) are strong, and if they revive the experience of winning against them at the Japan Open, they will not be able to climb to the top of the world championship.

In addition, along with Kim So-young and Gong Hee-yong, Lee So-hee (Incheon International Airport) and Baek Ha-na (MG Saemaul Geumgo), the world’s second pair of women’s doubles, are also aiming for the gold medal.

Men’s doubles Kang Min-hyeok-Seo Seung-jae (above Samsung Life Insurance), mixed doubles Seo Seung-jae-Chae Yoo-jung (Incheon International Airport), Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance)-Jeong Na-eun (Hwasun-gun Office) will also challenge for medals.
