Kobe Bryant to be Immortalized with Statue Outside Crypto.com Arena

Kobe Bryant’s legacy with the Los Angeles Lakers is undeniable. Now, the five-time NBA champion will be immortalized in the vicinity of the home of the Los Angeles franchise.

According to the report by journalists Russ Weakland and Alex Raskin from the Daily Mail, the Lakers will unveil a statue of Bryant outside the Crypto.com Arena on August 8, 2024. Likewise, the Californian organization will honor his daughter Gigi , who died along with the former player, six friends and a pilot in a helicopter crash in January 2020.

The date will be too significant since Bryant wore numbers 8 and 24 during his time with the Lakers. The shooting guard played 20 seasons in Los Angeles and after his farewell from the staves, the Lakers retired both numbers.

Kobe Bean Bryant played in 1,346 regular season games for the Lakers and scored a total of 33,643 points. He was invited to the All-Star Game 18 times, was the MVP of the finals twice and was the MVP of the NBA in the 2007-08 season.

It’s little known, but Kobe and Giana Bryant already have a statue. The 160-pound bronze figure of father and daughter holding hands stands on a hill near where the accident happened. The sculpture, placed on the second anniversary of the death of Bryant and her company, was made by the artist Dan Medina and its pedestal is engraved with the names of the nine victims.
