Union Berlin is still working on a powerful squad to survive not only in the Bundesliga but also in the Champions League. After the record transfer of Robin Gosens (Inter Milan), the Köpenickers now announced the next prominent newcomer in Kevin Volland.

The striker is returning to the Bundesliga from France after successfully completing his medical check-up in the federal capital on Thursday. Union pays a base fee of four million euros, and an additional 1.5 million euros in bonus payments could be added.

In every conversation we had with Kevin, we felt how much he wanted to go back to Germany and the Bundesliga.

“I grew up in the Bundesliga and have never lost sight of it. I’m very happy that I’m still getting the chance to play at the highest level here at Union,” the new Berliner is quoted as saying in a statement.

The now 31-year-old moved to the Principality in 2020 after four years at Bayer Leverkusen. However, Volland was no longer the first choice in Monaco recently. He only made 17 appearances (three goals) in Ligue 1 in 2022/23, never playing more than 90 minutes.

In addition to Leverkusen, the 15-time German national player has also played for TSG Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. He was trained in the youth team of 1860 Munich. In a total of eight Bundesliga seasons and 247 games, Volland scored 77 goals and provided 62 assists.

“In each of the conversations with Kevin, we felt how much he wanted to go back to Germany and the Bundesliga. Over the years, he has proven his qualities in front of goal nationally and internationally,” said Union Managing Director Oliver Ruhnert in praise of the new player Man. “We’re looking forward to this offensively flexible player.”
