Jessica Pegula got the upper hand against her doubles partner Coco Gauff.

There were hardly any big secrets before the game between Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff, after all, the two have been playing doubles together for some time. Even the direct comparison with a win for both players was not suitable for assigning the role of favourites.

In the first round, the 29-year-old Pegula rolled over the newly crowned Washington winner and quickly took a 4-0 lead. Then Gauff was able to serve twice, but the first set clearly went to her opponent.

In the second act, Gauff was able to build on the performance in the final phase of the first round and now acted at eye level. Towards the end of the sentence, the momentum changed several times. First the 19-year-old led 5:3, only to accept the equalizer after a missed set point. By winning two games in a row, the No. 7 in the world equalized the set with No. 2 set ball.

It should also remain exciting for a long time in the decision-making process. Gauff was able to iron out the first loss of service and compensate. At the score of 5: 5, the teenager blundered again on her own serve and fixed the loss of service with a double fault. Pegula then consistently, served 6: 2, 5: 7, 7: 5 after 2:25 hours of play and accepted her opponent’s friendly handshake.

In the semi-finals, the No. 4 of the tournament meets the Polish world number one Iga Swiatek or her compatriot Danielle Collins.
