Tonino Zorzi, an important point of reference in the history of Italian basketball, first as a player and then as a coach, and since 2011 in the ‘Italia Basket Hall of Fame, has died at the age of 88. His son Maurizio gave the announcement of his death with a post published on social media: “I want to remember you like this, proud of that gym where it all started … despite all our troubles I have always loved you … bye Dad”. Zorzi died in his Gorizia and had been ill for some time.
As a player, after starting out in Gorizia, he played for a long time in Varese basketball starting in 1954 and until 1962, captain of the first championship in 1961. 22 appearances for the national team. After his career as a basketball player, he had embarked on that of a coach. A very long parenthesis, which began in the seventies.
