Many people come to have doubts about what they receive in salary, if this is fair or if it is lower or higher compared to what others receive, because there is a way to know if it is within the average according to age.
Through the National Survey of Household Income and Expenses (ENIGH) carried out in 2022 by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), it detailed the average income per quarter received by men and women in Mexico.

In the data, INEGI divided the population into six age groups: 12 to 19 years, 20 to 29 years, 30 to 39 years, 40 to 49 years, 50 to 59 years, and 60 or more years.
Overall, the ENIGH 2022 showed that the average quarterly income of the general population is 24,414 pesos. While, in the case of men it is 29 thousand 285 and in women it is 19 thousand 081.
Regarding the age groups, the quarterly income averages were as follows:
12 to 19 years: general average of 6,532 pesos with 7,544 pesos in the case of men and 5,282 pesos in women. 20 to 29 years: general average of 22,181 pesos, with 25,511 pesos in men and 18 thousand 251 pesos in women.30 to 39 years: general average of 30 thousand 395 pesos, with 36 thousand 628 pesos in men and 23 thousand 634 pesos in women.40 to 49 years: general average of 31 thousand 694 pesos, with 37 thousand 655 pesos in men and 24 thousand 988 pesos in women.50 to 59 years: general average of 31 thousand 313 pesos, with 37 thousand 947 pesos in men and 23 thousand 652 pesos in women .60 or more years: general average of 23 thousand 738 pesos, with 30 thousand 216 pesos in men and 17 thousand 806 pesos in women.
Along with the great separation that exists between the income of men and women, there are several significant differences compared to the ENIGH 2016 survey. In this case, the average quarterly income of men aged 60 or over is 40,452 pesos in 2016 dropped to 30 thousand 216 pesos.
In women, all age ranges had growth, but none reached three thousand pesos. In this regard, the highest was the range of 40 to 49 years, going from 22 thousand 685 pesos to 24 thousand 988 in this 2023.
Other income within population
The ENIGH survey also showed the average quarterly income of various population groups. For example, those by number of children and by sex, with the following results.
The average income for men without children is 25,096 pesos and for women it is 19,859 pesos.
For people with a child it is 35,248 pesos in the case of men and 22,504 pesos for women.
With two children it is 38 thousand 168 pesos in the case of men and 20 thousand 711 pesos for women.
In the case of three children it is 37 thousand 290 pesos in the case of men and 17 thousand 421 pesos for women.
With four children or more it is 31,267 pesos in the case of men and 13,583 pesos for women.
By dividing the population by their level of schooling, the average quarterly income is as follows:
Complete primary school is 13,514 pesos in general with 17,114 pesos in the case of men and 9,845 pesos in the case of women.
Complete or incomplete secondary education is generally 19,652 pesos with 23,973 pesos for men and 14,497 pesos for women.
Complete or incomplete high school in general is 23,890 pesos with 28,548 pesos for men and 18,694 pesos for women.
Complete and incomplete professional in general is 42 thousand 962 pesos with 49 thousand 947 pesos for men and 35 thousand 444 pesos for women.
Complete or incomplete postgraduate in general is 89 thousand 986 pesos with 106 thousand 412 pesos for men and 73 thousand 525 pesos for women.

Within the INEGI study, carried out in 2022, regarding the sources of household income, work was the highest with an average of 65.7 percent; income from transfers is 17.2 percent; the estimate for housing rental is 11.8 percent and that for property income is 5.2 percent.
