Head-to-Head Showdown: Romane Dicko and Julia Tolofua Compete for Gold at World Masters

This Sunday, two judokas compete in the World Masters to try to win the gold medal. Romane Dicko, from Clamart in the Hauts-de-Seine and 2022 world champion, and Julia Tolofua, 2023 world vice-champion, are competing for the title in the final. Romane Dicko trains at ESBM Judo in Blanc-Mesnil in Seine-Saint-Denis and was crowned French champion in 2017 in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines. This duel is all the more important because only one of the two will represent France in the heavyweight category at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two judokas have already faced each other twice, with two victories for Romane Dicko.

After his disappointment at the Worlds in May in Doha, Romane Dicko put in an impressive performance at the World Masters. Indeed, the 23-year-old judoka won two of her three fights in less than a minute by ippon. This Japanese term designates the highest score that a fighter can obtain, and which guarantees him an immediate victory. Julia Tolofua, 26, won her fights thanks to disqualifications from her opponents.

The World Masters brings together the world’s 36 best judokas in each category and is considered the second most important competition of the year after the Worlds.
