Hamburg Towers Revamp Roster with New Players, Highlighting Alyami Durham and His Fashion Label

After staying up, the Hamburg Towers brought in seven new players in the summer so that they were no longer mere mediocrity in the Easy Credit Basketball Bundesliga. Coach Benka Barloschky (35) and head of sport Marvin Willoughby (45) used the search for players in the lower European leagues. One stands out: Alyami Durham (24/USA)!

The builder founded the fashion label “Real Is Rare” with his brother. It started as a balance during college so that I didn’t just have basketball on my mind. In the meantime, the hobby has turned into a business. In the spring, they even took their clothes to New York Fashion Week!

“My style is rare. We wanted to do things that people haven’t seen before,” says the 1.93 meter tall man. Some NBA pros are already wearing his clothes. Ex-Towers player Caleb Homesley (26) is also a fan. Now the brand should grow and also find buyers in Europe.

The eye-catching parts are mostly unique. Even mom helps with tailoring back home in Georgia. Durham is responsible for the design, his brother takes care of the business side. “It’s a real family business. My parents inspired me. They taught us that no matter where you go, you are always presentably dressed when you leave the house.”

It was his father who gave him a basketball for the first time when he was four years old. “Basketball is in my genes.”

In his first year as a professional, Durham learned the hard way, after a failed attempt in Greece he switched to the British BBL to join the Calendonia Gladiators in Glasgow in the winter. “I learned a lot,” Durham admits. “In the beginning it was a culture shock.”

Saturday is the first (non-public) test against promoted Rasta Vechta. Durham: “I want to be an engine and a leader for the team.”
