Indonesian badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung managed to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2023 BWF World Championships. Gregoria won the rubber game over Chinese representative Han Yue.

In the top 16 match that was held at the Royal Arena, Friday (25/8/2023) early morning WIB, Gregoria had to play the party for 53 minutes before winning 13-21, 21-19 and 21-11.

In the first game, Gregoria had difficulty keeping up with Han Yue’s game. He trailed 4-8 before finally getting close to 6-8. Han Yue was able to add point after point to close the game’s interval with 11-8.

After the interval, Gregoria lost control and could only add one point. Meanwhile, Han Yue made five straight points to lead 16-9 and finally won 21-13 through four straight points.

Gregoria came back in the second game to take a quick 5-1 lead. However, Gregoria again lost the wind, making it easier for Han Yue to get closer to the points that were thin at 8-9.

Gregoria took a 11-9 lead in the second game and added five straight points to take a 15-9 lead. That advantage actually burdened Gregoria so that Han Yue was able to narrow the gap to 14-15.

The duel was tight until the score was 18-18 which Gregoria finally finished with a 21-19 victory.

Entering the third game, Gregoria only got resistance until the interval when she led 11-9. After that, he accelerated with eight straight points to lead 19-9 and eventually won 21-11.

Gregoria ended the poor record of Indonesia’s representatives in the women’s singles at the BWF World Championships. Because Lindaweni Fanetri was the last representative of the Red and White who managed to advance to the Top 8 of the tournament in 2015.
