Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Soccer Skills Ignite Leagues Cup Final

At the Leagues Cup final on Sunday night, the Milwaukee Bucks star was not for Lionel Messi for understandable reasons.

WHAT HAPPENED? NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo heats up the atmosphere at Geodis Park ahead of the Leagues Cup final between Nashville SC and Inter Miami. The Milwaukee Bucks power forward kicked a ball into the net from long range and then celebrates with the famous “Siuu” celebration from Cristiano Ronaldo – the perennial rival of Miami’s new superstar Lionel Messi.

WHAT IS THE BACKGROUND? Antetokounmpo is a co-owner at Nashville and therefore wanted his team to triumph in front of their home crowd.

WHAT WAS SAID? The ‘Greek Freek’ declared before the game: “It will be the first time that I’m against Messi.”

The two-time NBA MVP continued, “I expect both teams to play at a high level. When I played in the NBA Finals two years ago, I loved every minute. You can never relive that moment, man can never take him for granted because you never know if you’ll see it happen again and that’s why I know our boys are going to play hard against one of the greatest players that has ever played this game, stick together and try to make a to get victory.”

In the end, however, it wasn’t enough for Antetokounmpo’s boys, including former Hertha Hany Mukhtar, to win the title. Inter Miami won 10-9 after a dramatic penalty shootout.

The score was 1-1 after regulation time, with Messi scoring a dream goal to give Miami the lead.
