Pumped. From Tuesday August 29 to Saturday September 2, the town of Vernon (Eure) will host the new edition of the Super Mario Kart World Championship. If many foreign players (Japanese, English, Australian, Belgian, French…) are expected, several local figures will also be there. Among them, a certain Jérémy Edline.
Aged 42, this resident of Gasny, active member of the Ganam association and musician of the group Les P’tits Jésus voyageurs, will participate in this championship for the fourth time.
In 2018, I finished in 32nd place in all modes (out of around fifty participants, Editor’s note). In 2019, I came 28th and then took 27th place in 2022. During the last edition, I managed to get out of the chickens but I came across the Englishman David Moll (nicknamed Danger Moll, Editor’s note). I was told: you have no chance of falling on him… I took a 4-0.

“I am quite confident”
Indeed, the competition promises to be tough in this competition, which will welcome both amateur and professional players. In any case, if he has few illusions for the podium, Jérémy Edline has not skimped on training in recent weeks.
I’ve been playing Super Mario Kart for two hours a day for a month. It’s already not bad, but you have to know that the defending champions play there non-stop, he warns. I’m pretty confident, except for the battle mode (he finished penultimate on this one in 2022, Editor’s note). It’s a rather aggressive mode, while I prefer pure driving.

His goal at the end of the championship? Gain a place compared to its previous ranking. “This year, what’s cool is that there are more than ten new players… So I hope they will have a lower level than me! »
Jérémy Edline admits it: he finds it difficult to bear the pressure. Nevertheless, other professional players are in this situation and he therefore hopes that they will crack… Especially since they will be playing in front of an audience!
“Generally, when the last lap of a race is announced, I put a lot of pressure on myself. Others have a hell of a mind and are in their own bubble. These, impossible to lose, he assures. Some champions have also told me that vice can be learned. So don’t hesitate to send objects to thwart the opponent’s plans. For this competition, the player from Gasny will count on a duo of well-known characters from the Mario universe: Bowser and his sidekick Donkey Kong! “The big players choose them because their vehicle has a big burst of speed,” he says.
“I have always loved challenge games”
This passion for the Super Mario Kart video game is not new. His first Nintendo was given to him by his father when he was ten years old. “He often worked in Paris and brought me one, assuring me that it was fashionable,” says Jérémy Edline. His first game, unsurprisingly, was Super Mario 1.

I’ve always loved challenge games, and beating times in races. Strangely, we never get tired of this game, unlike others. At the time, I was trying to finish it as quickly as possible. I could play it every day with no problem!

And to continue: “Then overnight, I dropped everything! Probably because of studies, friends… I had sold everything. » Until the fashion of retrogaming reappeared, about ten years ago. From then on, her first loves emerged again.
“I bought all my consoles, my games… When I got back into it, I remembered that my favorite game was Super Mario Kart. I had found a notebook where I had noted down all my times. I exploded my scores, and that’s when I discovered a site where I could follow a community of fans of the game. And then I started in the championship. »
Fingers crossed that Jérémy Edline reaches the podium this year!
