It was a pitching duel that took place in Phoenix between Brandon Williamson (Cincinnati) and Merrill Kelly (Arizona). The latter worked until the seventh inning and struck out 12 rivals, being the most of him so far this season.

The hosts took the lead in that seventh inning, with Jace Peterson’s bases-loaded single scoring Nick Ahmed. Gabriel Moreno was in circulation at the time. And, not having a good reading of the hit, he came to the plate at the wrong time, and was put out; in what would have been the second run of the inning for Arizona.

Cincinnati turned around in the eighth inning. Nick Senzel hit a solo shot and Tyler Stephenson dispatched to drive in Noelvi Marte with the go-ahead streak.

However, Arizona had the last word. Corbin Carroll hit a two-run homer to turn the game around again and put the Rattlers within three outs of victory.

In the ninth inning Paul Sewald arrived to get the last three outs and score his 28th save of the season. The victory went to the Dominican Miguel Castro (6-6) and the defeated Alex Young (4-2).

On in the last days

It should be noted that with those three hits, Gabriel Moreno left his average this season at .282 (255-72) with five homers, 36 RBIs and 22 runs scored. But, it is in his last seven games where he has been most in tune with the wood. He’s hitting .345 with seven RBIs, five registered, a .345 OBP, a .586 slugging percentage and a .931 OPS.
