Friction and Excitement: George Pickens and Joey Porter Clash in Steelers Training Camp

The Pittsburgh Steelers are already rubbing their hands to see what their second-year wide receiver, George Pickens, can do when the NFL season begins.

After only five days of training, the one that emerged at the University of Georgia has dazzled with several plays worthy of any high-level match. Even in at least half of these practice days he has already had friction with cornerback Joey Porter Jr., in charge of covering the passes sent to Pickens.

Things got a little more heated on Tuesday, after Pickens made a dazzling one-handed catch, with a choking mark from Porter, who couldn’t do anything.

The friction between George Pickens and Porter

Last week, Pickens crashed into Porter on the field on a block attempt that created a row. Add to that Tuesday, when Pickens caught a handball over Porter 25 yards down the field, then got up and drove the ball straight into Porter’s chest.

Immediately afterwards, Porter crashed the ball to Pickens, although he continued celebrating his catch with other teammates. Right away, defensive backs coach Grady Jackson approached Porter for a chat, probably about the row. Finally, the cornerback recognized the skills of his partner and minimized the friction they experienced.

“I don’t know how he caught it,” he said. “We are teammates, so we want the best from each other at the end of the day. We are going to talk a little bit, but we are never going to get past that point, ”he assured.

Later in the same practice Porter claimed it with an interception of quarterback Mitch Trubisky.
