NBA – From 2017 to 2020, eighteen former NBA players had set up a health insurance fraud scheme, of which Terrence Williams was the instigator.
Two years ago, we learned that eighteen former NBA players had set up a dark story of health insurance fraud aimed at former NBA players. Among them, Tony Allen, Glen Davis or Darius Miles, all accomplices of Terrence Williams, considered the instigator of this scam. Between 2017 and 2020, these eighteen players would have defrauded around five million dollars.
A year after deciding to plead guilty to negotiate his sentence, the former first round of the Nets Draft was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Thursday! Williams will also have to reimburse $2.5 million to the players’ association, and pay a $650,000 fine to the state.
Already in prison since May
Behind bars since May, for threatening a witness, Williams “ takes full responsibility of his role in the case, and he expressed regret before the verdict was announced, blaming his offense on the ” stupidity and greed“. While the other 17 players had to pay him commissions for each production of false documents, the former player regretted that his imprisonment took him away from his six children, two of whom are now adults.
He also attributed his acting out in part to an opioid addiction that developed after he took painkillers to treat injuries during his career.
