Tom Staggs and Kevin Mayer, two former high-ranking Disney executives, returned to the company in a consulting capacity to advise on the “development of strategic options” for ESPN.
The news follows Disney CEO Bob Iger’s comments to CNBC in mid-July, when he said the company was looking for a strategic partner for the sports network.
Staggs, a former Disney COO, and Mayer, Disney’s former president of Direct-to-Consumer and International and briefly TikTok CEO, will work with Jimmy Pitaro, current president of ESPN and Sports Content, while retaining their positions at Candle Media, the media company they co-founded in 2021, consigned the specialized portal Variety.
