The Valle del Cauca coach Eduardo Lara, who is remembered for having led the training processes of the Colombian national teams for several years, was admitted this Friday to the Imbanaco clinic in Cali, his hometown, after suffering a heart attack.
According to the information released by the local media, the strategist’s wife would have confirmed that he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of that care center after having presented symptoms related to a heart attack while he was at home.
Lara, who is 63 years old, is under permanent medical observation. In addition, it is expected that in the next few hours the clinic where he is being treated will issue a statement in which they give an official report on the state of health.
Why is Eduardo Lara recognized?
The Valle del Cauca coach is recognized for having directed the Colombian national team that won the South American U-20 championship that was played in the coffee region in 2005.
In that selection he was in charge of footballers such as Radamel Falcao García and Hugo Rodallega, who was the tournament’s top scorer and was chosen as the best player of that edition, above the Argentine Lionel Messi.
Lara was also the coach who led the national team in the U-20 World Cup that was played in Colombia in 2011. In that squad he had, among other players, James Rodríguez, Santiago Arias, Luis Fernando Muriel and Duván Zapata, who became the great references of Colombian football in recent years and led the country to play the Senior World Cups in 2014 and 2018.
Lara was also in charge of the Colombian teams in the sub-15 and sub-17 categories. But the caleño has not only directed the minor teams. He was also in charge of the senior Tricolor in the qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, to which he did not qualify.
For his part, Eduardo has also been the coach of several Colombian soccer teams such as Deportes Quindío, América de Cali, Boyacá Chicó, Envigado FC and Once Caldas. While abroad he has directed cadres from Ecuador and El Salvador.
