Financial Struggles Threaten the Future of CSA Ouled El Bahia Judo Club

Lack of resources, the CSA Ouled El Bahia risks being stopped in its tracks

Barely six years of existence, the amateur sports club of judo, Ouled El Bahia, has managed to offer itself a place in the sun on the Algerian sports scene by managing to hold the cane high for the most experienced competitors of Algerian judo, not without winning titles in all categories, except that the great adventure is already in danger of being stopped. Indeed, at the level of the management of this Oran training, we do not rule out the possibility of put the key under the doormat “if the delicate financial situation facing the club continues”, we warn.
“We already almost gave up everything in the middle of the season, but at the insistence of our athletes, we agreed to continue our mission, while using our own money to honor our commitments to our judokas and avoid withdrawing during national competitions. “, indicated to the APS, Athmane Falet, member of the executive board of the club. The last misadventure experienced by the management of this club, when the latter was preparing to compete in the Algerian championship by teams, which it also won a little over two weeks ago in Tipaza, gave material to reflect on the leaders of the CSA Ouled El Bahia.
“We almost skipped this major competition because we found ourselves with empty boxes. The president of the club had to borrow the sum of 700,000 DA so that the team could go to Tipaza,” said the same source.
With a squad made up of four senior internationals (and six juniors), led by Driss Messaoud, the only Algerian judoka to have won a gold medal at the African championship held in Oran in May 2022, the formation of Ouled El Bahia achieved a real feat in Tipaza, winning the title of team champion.
This is the first title of its kind for this club, which also achieved the same performance in juniors, a few weeks ago, which illustrates its domination over Algerian judo.
This same sports manager pointed out, in passing, that the only subsidy from which his club benefited did not exceed 3 million dinars. It emanates from the local direction of Youth and Sports, “but which is far from covering the expenses of an elite club”, according to the same interlocutor.
And to add: “just for this season, we have so far spent nearly 10 million dinars. Obviously, it is thanks to the contribution of the members of the executive office that we manage to complete the exercise”.
Faced with this situation, the debate within the management of Ouled El Bahia revolves around the dissolution or not of the club, even if a possible decision to withdraw from the sports scene is difficult to take after six years of work during which this training has succeeded in reviving judo in the western capital, insists the member of the board of directors of the CSA Ouled El Bahia.
“However, we remain hopeful to see the economic operators active in our city, and there are many of them, coming to lend us a hand, and this, through sponsorship contracts, knowing that the trophy that our club has just won in the championship of Algeria is the first won by an Oran team since the Algerian football cup trophy from MCO in 1996,” he said.
