Michaela Polleres again placed in the top field at the Masters in Hungary’s capital. The 26-year-old was denied a medal this time.

Michaela Polleres traveled to the World Judo Masters in Budapest as the defending champion. The number three in the world rankings started in the weight class up to 70 kilograms by beating the Israeli Maya Goshen. In April, Polleres suffered another defeat at the Grand Slam tournament against the Israelis. And this time, the third in the world rankings had a very difficult time. After just seven seconds, Goshen took the lead with Waza-ari (after Seoi-nage), a few seconds later the ÖJV athlete also conceded a Shido. The favorite was behind until 14 seconds before the end, then she equalized with a counterattack technique (Ura-nage) at literally the last moment. After 5:40 minutes of fighting time, Michaela Polleres achieved the decisive score (Ouchi-gari).

The native of Ternitz also quickly fell behind with waza-ari in the quarterfinals against two-time winner of the season Elisavet Teltsidou from Greece. This time there was no reversal. The Olympic silver medalist from Tokyo 2021 received another rating and lost with ippon. With that, the 26-year-old had to go into the hopefuls. An old acquaintance is waiting there with the two-time ex-world champion Barbara Matic. In the personal head-to-head it was 6:3 for Polleres before the fight. And in Budapest, too, the JC Wimpassing fighter ultimately had the better end (thanks to a waza-ari score). The hope of another Masters medal was not fulfilled afterwards. Michaela Polleres was defeated by world champion Saki Niizoe (Japan) with three shidos (Hansoku-make). Fifth place brings 648 points for the world rankings. Tomorrow, Sunday, Polleres’ Wimpassingen club colleague Aaron Fara will be in action.
