FC Bayern and Kahn terminate contract: “Agreed harmoniously”

FC Bayern Munich and ex-CEO Oliver Kahn have now contractually completed their separation in the championship final last season, which was initially accompanied by discord. The agreement was made public at the end of the German soccer champions’ trip to Asia on Wednesday (local time). “Sport-Bild” reported the termination of the contract in its current issue.

“I was in contact with Oliver several times after the end of the season, we reached a harmonious agreement on terminating his contract. Everything went amicably, ”said the President and Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Herbert Hainer, to the sports magazine. The 69-year-old traveled to Asia with the team, but returned to Munich before the final friendly on Wednesday (today) in Singapore against Liverpool.

Kahn was admitted to the Bayern board at the beginning of 2020. On July 1, 2021, the former national goalkeeper succeeded Karl-Heinz Rummenigge (67) as CEO. He was only responsible for two – disappointing – seasons of the record champions as boss. His five-year contract would have expired on December 31, 2024.

According to “Sport-Bild”, the severance payment is four to five million euros. For Hainer, Champions League winner Kahn remains “a Bayern legend”. The long-standing CFO Jan-Christian Dreesen (55) had succeeded Kahn as boss.

Immediately after winning the eleventh championship title in a row on the last Bundesliga matchday in Cologne, the club made the separation from Kahn and also from sports director Hasan Salihamidzic (46) public. Both had already been informed about the decision of the supervisory board. In contrast to Salihamidzic, Kahn did not react in a reasonable way and was no longer there either at the game in Cologne or at the championship celebration.

The former Bayern captain spontaneously spoke of the “worst day” of his life. After the first great frustration about the separation, Kahn also struck a conciliatory tone. “We’ll sit down – when everything has cooled down – and talk about everything in peace.” That has now happened.
