Here, in the Panther Gym in Augsburg’s Hammerschmiede district, Nico Sturm is working on his physique for the new season in the National Hockey League (NHL). The 28-year-old has stamina. After his junior days at Augsburger EV and ESV Kaufbeuren, Sturm went to America at the age of 18. After two and a half years in various junior leagues, he received a place at Clarkson University in upstate New York and captained the varsity team to the conference title in the prestigious NCAA college league. The Minnesota Wild then gave him an NHL contract. Exceptional for a player who was never drafted. In March 2022, Sturm moved to Colorado – and three months later won the Stanley Cup, the NHL championship.
