The general incorporated association Pickup Playground, which is engaged in grassroots activities to enliven Japanese basketball, will hold basketball events for elementary and junior high school students at gymnasiums throughout Okinawa from August 23rd to September 3rd, when the World Cup Okinawa Round will be held. The purpose of this summer camp is to create a place for Okinawan children not only to watch the game but also to experience basketball through the unique opportunity of hosting the World Cup in their own country. Various “basketball heroes”, from active professional players to players active on SNS such as TikTok and YouTube, will participate in free events for elementary and junior high school students during the Okinawa Round.
During the period, a large wrapped sightseeing bus will appear. Now you can travel all over Okinawa and experience a variety of basketball events at various gymnasiums and parks. There will be a clinic with Okinawan-born professional basketball player Sei Namisato, a special clinic and talk show with Momoka Okoye, the Japanese women’s national basketball team, and a pick-up game featuring YouTuber Tomoyan. In addition, tank tops (not for sale) printed with the event logo will be distributed free of charge to children who participate in various contents.
