Evan Fournier’s Career in Need of a Change: Will the French Forward Leave the Knicks?

Evan Fournier’s career needs a change. The French forward, who has one year left on his contract with the Knicks for 18.8 million dollars, knows that he does not count for the least for Tom Thibodeau and that his future lies in playing the 2023-24 campaign with another equipment; so much so that in the month of June he stressed that he would be very surprised if he continued in the New York organization, at the same time that he reproached the team and his coach.

With this scenario, and after the debacle of France in the 2023 World Cup, the 30-year-old player has been asked how he sees the next steps in his career and if it is possible that he may be forced to leave the NBA. At the moment he is convinced that he will continue to have a place in the American competition.

“Obviously I want to play again. I want to be successful again. I know that I can help. I know that I can play and I know that I can do many things », he comments on whether he sees himself with a place in an NBA team for the coming season.

The truth is that the present of the French player in the Knicks has changed radically a year ago. After a first season in which he started 80 games to average 14.1 points, 2.6 assists and 2.1 rebounds, in the last he directly disappeared from the rotation after playing 27 games. Without a doubt, it is not the best cover letter to convince another team.

Fournier is clear that he wants to play, and therefore expressed his optimism in the face of being transferred in the offseason. So far it hasn’t happened and it doesn’t seem like he’s around. He knows that it is something that does not depend on him. «As you know, he is not in my hands. If the Knicks want to keep me, I’ll have to stay, if they want to trade me, I’ll have to go,” he admits.
