Elina Svitolina Powers Through to Quarterfinals of WTA Tournament in Washington

Elina Svitolina brilliantly reached the quarters of the WTA tournament in Washington on Wednesday. The Russian Daria Kasatkina could not do anything to stem the superiority of her opponent.

Since her return from maternity leave in April, Elina Svitolina has begun an impressive rise in power. Winner of the Strasbourg tournament in May, she then made a strong impression at Roland-Garros and Wimbledon. Two Grand Slam tournaments where she respectively reached the quarters and halves. Engaged this week in Washington, like her companion Gaël Monfils, the Ukrainian has once again impressed.

Opposed to Daria Kasatkina, 11th player in the world and seeded n°5, Elina Svitolina brilliantly won her confrontation of the second round in 1h37 (6-2, 6-2). She never lost her serve while being able to confiscate the face-off from the Russian twice in each set. For the latter, Elina Svitolina represents a real pet peeve. Daria Kasatkina has never managed to dominate her in eight games, including an 8th final recently at Roland-Garros.

In the quarter-finals, Elina Svitolina could face the tournament’s No. 1 seed, American Jessica Pegula. She will play against her compatriot Peyton Stearns this Thursday.
