Tasa Jiya qualified for the semi-finals of the 200 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest on Wednesday. The Dutch came third in her series in 22.97 and that was enough to continue.

Reaching the semi-finals is a new milestone for Jiya since her return to top sport.

As a teenager, 25-year-old Jiya was a very talented athlete. At the age of eighteen, she was already a reserve runner for the 4×100 meter relay at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

After those Games, Jiya retired from athletics and in 2018 she gave birth to a daughter. Since she picked up her sports career again last year, things have been going fast for the Amsterdam native. Jiya sharpened her personal best in the 200 meters this year to 22.77 and became Dutch champion.

In Budapest, Jiya is at a World Cup for the first time and therefore celebrated with a place in the semi-finals. The semi-finals of the 200 meters are scheduled for Thursday at the National Athletics Center and the final is Friday evening.
