Dream Final in the Premier Pádel de Mendoza: Coello and Tapia Crowned Champions

The second edition of the Premier Pádel de Mendoza came to an end. And it was with the most anticipated final: the “superkids” Martín Di Neno and Franco Stupaczuk, against the best couple of the moment, the Spanish Arturo Coello and the Catamarcan Agustín Tapia.

It was the fourth date of the contest, and the only one in the country. As it happened in 2022, the stadium was packed with fans, especially since Friday, when the quarterfinals were played.

The competition, which distributed a prize of 300,000 euros and awarded 1,000 points to the champions, had 48 couples. But on Sunday only two arrived.

In the semifinals Tapia and Coello beat the, for now, No. 1 in the Premier ranking, Alejandro Galán and Juan Lebrón. The result was 6/2 and 6/4.

The other semi was more even. Until there came the Cordovan Juan “el Gato” Tello together with Alex Ruiz, from Spain. After winning the first set from Di Neno and Stupa they came close to taking the second, but it slipped away. The third was a procedure for the “superkids”: 6/1 and go to the grand final.

Dream final in the Premier Pádel de Mendoza

The final did not disappoint. After a first set in which Coello and Tapia overwhelmed their rivals in just 30 minutes, the resilient “superkids” put on their overalls in the second and took it to the tie break.

Only in this set did some break options appear for Di Neno and Stupa, although they were never achieved.

On the other side, Tapia and Coello showed no cracks. Sometimes it seems that these kids are playing something else, mainly because of the speed they bring to the game.

No one on the circuit currently plays as fast as they do. As long as they continue to combine very high speed with few unforced errors, it will be difficult to beat them.

They are currently the couple to beat. All the rivals are looking for a way to beat them, and maybe at some point they will find it. For now they seem invincible.

Coello and Tapia said goodbye to the competition champions, and without giving up a single set in the entire tournament, something that not all champion couples can achieve.

With this, the couple of the moment added their third title on this circuit, which has been going on for four dates. Now the players will have a three-week break.

What was not seen of the Premier Pádel

The Mendoza Premier Pádel left some curiosities. One of the most striking was that of the Argentine couple Tino Libaak and Leo Augsburer who, as they explained, got the ticket for the plane very precisely and did not arrive at the time set by the organization for their debut. Despite the fact that there was a request from the couple to reschedule the match, the organization explained that the request was not made formally, so they could not play.

Another of the pearls occurred on the track of field three, in the game played by Juan Cruz Beluatti and Javier Ruiz against Gonzalo Alfonso and Juan De Pascual.

The referee misnamed one of the players for most of the match. Instead of saying Beluatti said Beulatti.

At one point, the player left the field and, standing with his back to the referee, pointed out his name stamped on his shirt: Juan Cruz Beluatti. However, on the next play the referee misnamed him again. On one occasion, when he said his last name correctly, the player raised his arms in acknowledgment. There was laughter in the stands.

Gallardo and Nalbandian, in the Premier Pádel

The tournament had some notable visits, including that of former River coach Marcelo Gallardo. “El Muñeco” was applauded by the stands on several occasions. After one of the games, Gallardo went up to greet Agustín Tapia. And then he played a game, together with the president of River Jorge Brito.

The other figure present was that of David Nalbandian. The professional tennis player was rallying with the best player in the history of paddle tennis, the Argentine Fernando Belasteguín. The few fans who could see them, happy.
