Dominic Thiem Set to Return to ATP Tour in Winston-Salem After Strong Performance in Kitzbühl

Dominic Thiem will return to the ATP tour next week after reaching the final in Kitzbühl.

In Winston-Salem, the 29-year-old is playing his first and only preparatory tournament for the US Open, which starts at the end of August, after a two-week break. In the first round, Thiem meets Arthur Rinderknech (ATP-68.).

The Lichtenwörther already played against the Fanzosen in the quarter-finals of the Generali Open at the beginning of August. After a bad start and losing the first set, Thiem turned the game and finally made it into the semifinals.

The ATP 250 tournament will be the second duel between the two within three weeks. This time the winner meets eighth seeded Botic van de Zandschulp in the second round. The Dutchman has a bye to start with.

Ofner with a bye at the start

As is well known, Thiem renounced the Masters doubles in Toronto and Cincinnati and prepared for the US trip at home. His appearance in Winston-Salem is the only way to prepare on hard court for the last Grand Slam tournament of the year a week later.

Last year, the ÖTV ace was in the round of 16. There Thiem clearly failed in two sentences to Jack Draper.

Sebastian Ofner will also be in Winston-Salem. Austria’s number one is number 15 and enjoys a bye at the start. In the second round, Ofner will face the winner of the duel Alex Michelsen (WC/ATP-138) and Juan Pablo Varillas (ATP-74).
