Dirk Nowitzki Becomes First German Inducted into Basketball Hall of Fame

This has never happened before! Dirk Nowitzki (45) is one of the greatest athletes of all time. The former basketball player really took off after moving to the USA – he played in the North American NBA professional league for the Dallas Mavericks from 1998 to 2019. Last year, the sports legend was nominated for a coveted spot in the Basketball Hall of Fame – and now Dirk will actually be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame!

As reported by Spiegel, among others, it is now official: The 45-year-old received a place in the Naismith Hall of Fame on Sunday night – and was the first German ever! It is the Hall of Fame for the greatest players in the NBA. Like his predecessors, the former athlete is now also being recognized for his extraordinary career.

In view of the great celebration, Dirk had already given an acceptance speech on Saturday evening in the Hall of Fame in Springfield – and it was really very emotional. “Two words have been going through my head for months: thank you very much. It means everything to me,” he explained in tears.
