Great basketball returns to the Valley, in the name of two personalities who have left indelible traces: Diego Pini, for half a century the soul of provincial basketball, and Emilio Rigamonti as long-standing sponsor of the Sondrio club.
The sports halls of Bormio, Cepina and Sondrio – the latter inaugurating its brand new and splendid parquet on this occasion – will host the meetings of the Valtellina Summer League (also open to volleyball), which intends to follow the steps of the Valtellina Basket Circuit, which Diego Pini himself was able to create – exactly forty years ago – and bring to very high levels in Europe.
The Diego Pini-Emilio Rigamonti Memorial will be staged from 1 to 3 September. It is organized by Up Events, with the contribution of the Lombardy Region, the Province of Sondrio, the local administrations concerned and a pool of sponsors. It will begin on Friday 1st September at 6 pm in Cepina with Leonessa Brescia, a team that won the Italian Cup last year, which will challenge the ambitious Pallacanestro Cantù of coach Meo Sacchetti. On Saturday 2, however, at the Pentagon in Bormio the Cantù team will face the Swiss team Sam Massagno (second last year in the championship and winner of the national cup). At the PalaScieghi-Pini in Sondrio, at 6 pm on 2 September, Pallacanestro Varese challenges Germani Brescia. Sunday 3rd grand finale, again in Sondrio, same time, between Pallacanestro Varese and Sam Massagno.
