Dick Advocaat contacted Wilfred Genee after the broadcast of Veronica Offside on Monday last week. The presenter asked the 75-year-old Hagenees after the broadcast ‘if he still felt like it’. That comment received little sympathy from Advocaat, who asked his colleague for an explanation after the broadcast.
“I got a call from Advocaat the next day, a bit displeased,” Genee starts the broadcast on Monday evening. Jan Boskamp, also a guest, asks Advocaat whether he actually called. “Yes, of course. That was a misplaced comment,” said Advocaat. “You just have to shake your head and keep walking”, Boskamp advises his table companion.
According to Genee, the reason was that Advocaat was talking about Pierre van Hooijdonk as a footballer, while the topic of conversation was his statements in Studio Voetbal. “It was not about Van Hooijdonk as a football player”, Genee emphasizes again. “It was about the statements he had made. Dick said he was happy with him as a trainer. That is not what this program is about.”
Lawyer disagrees with Genee. “Didn’t I also say it wasn’t my friend?”, repeats the former coach of Feyenoord. “I think it is logical that he will not join us for the time being. I think he has not realized what could happen to Steijn. That was not nothing he said, wasn’t it. That could have cost his career. That he said that he would slippery ice makes it worse. He knew what was coming.”
