Davis Schneider’s Heroics Help Blue Jays Break Losing Streak with 8-3 Win over Guardians

TORONTO – Davis Schneider proved to be the spark plug the Toronto Blue Jays needed again on Saturday at Rogers Centre.

Schneider drove in three runs, and went to a triple to make a carousel, helping his club snap a three-game losing streak with an 8-3 win over the Cleveland Guardians.

After Cleveland took the lead on Jose Ramirez’ 20th home run of the campaign, Schneider made the difference for the Jays (71-59) at the plate.

With George Springer on the trails, the 24-year-old, a former 28th-round Toronto pick, slammed a two-run bomb off left-handed starter Logan Allen (6-7).

It was Schneider’s fourth long ball in his 33rd at-bat of the season, posting a sparkling .425 batting average.

In addition to getting the ball to safety three times in as many appearances on Saturday, the second baseman also walked one.

In the race for the playoffs, the Jays are one game behind the Houston Astros (72-58), holders of the last rank reserved for a club drafted in the American.

Toronto also finds itself two games behind the Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners, who have an identical record of 72-56.

Left-handed starter Hyun-Jin Ryu worked five innings, allowing three runs, two of which were earned.

Coming in long relief to Ryu, Yimi Garcia gave his teammate a serious helping hand by obtaining three strikeouts, while the bases were loaded and the score was 5-3.

The Jays and the Guardians (61-69) will meet for the third time on Sunday afternoon.
