Czech Beach Volleyball Pair Perušič and Schweiner Secure Win at Hamburg Tournament

On Thursday, Schweiner and Perušič stepped into the Hamburg tournament with a three-set victory over the home pair of Paul Henning and Sven Winter. Over Katařany, the third-seeded pair won the opening set 21:17, but lost the next two sets 16:21 and 9:15.

“The first set was almost flawless from our side, we showed one of our best performances this year. In the second set, the game was more balanced, both sides had several opportunities that they did not use. We maintained the lead until 14:12, but then the Qataris quickly returned to the game, caught up, dominated the second set and dominated the tie-break,” Perušič told ČTK.

The Czech beach volleyball players were in control of the decisive duel against the Poles. Except for the very beginning, they did not lose in it and won 21:17 and 21:18. On Saturday, in the first round of the play-offs, last year’s European runners-up will face Spanish qualifiers Pablo Herrera and Adrián Gavira, who they beat on their way to victory at the Uberlandia tournament in April.

Perušič injured his abdominal muscle at the King of the Court event in Luxembourg in July, and the best domestic couple had to cancel the elite tournaments in Gstaad, Montreal and the European Championships in Vienna. Schweiner took shared ninth place at the EC with Tadeáš Trousil. In Hamburg, the Czechs will try to gain more points for the Olympic qualification and improve their commitment for the October WC in Mexico.
