The American Coco Gauff and the Briton Dan Evans won the title at the tennis tournament in the US capital Washington. 19-year-old Gauff defeated Maria Sakkari of Greece 6-2, 6-3. For the seventh in the world rankings, it was the fourth success on the WTA tour.
Gauff failed in the first round at Wimbledon a few weeks ago. “I’m glad I was able to get back on my feet,” she said after her second win in five duels with Sakkari. The Greek lost for the seventh time in her eighth final appearance.
The 33-year-old Evans celebrated the second tournament victory of his career in the hard court tournament, which serves as preparation for the US Open (August 28 to September 10). He defeated Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor 7-5, 6-3.
