Chillán will host the hammer and discus throwing tests in Quilamapu.

With a crowded ceremony held at the Municipal Theater of Chillán, the Ministry of Sports, through the National Institute of Sports, presented the 136 athletes who will represent Ñuble in the National Final of the School Sports Games that will take place in the region of Biobío between September 1 and 16.

The competition covers eleven disciplines, which will be played in different communes-venues: Los Angeles will have handball; Santa Barbara volleyball; Arauco will receive table tennis and cycling; San Pedro de la Paz basketball; in Talcahuano futsal and judo will be played; and in Concepción chess, basketball, swimming and athletics (conventional and adapted).

Regarding this last discipline, Chillán will host two specific tests: discus and hammer throwing, which will take place on Tuesday, September 5 at the Atlético Quilamapu Stadium.

“Ñuble will also be part of this true national school sports festival. This is thanks to the good conditions that Quilamapu has for the throwing tests, which also helps in the great potential that the region has always had in athletics. We can perfectly achieve medals thanks to the great work that is being done through the Promises Chile program”, explained the Sports Seremi, Julio Jorquera.

One of the athletes with great possibilities in the hammer throw is Charlot Pérez, an athlete from San Nicolás who belongs to the IND’s Promises Chile program. “Last year I already achieved gold, so we hope to repeat the achievement and qualify for the South American school. I already have the experience of competing in a national final of these Games”, assured Pérez.

It should be noted that the 136 athletes from Ñuble who will attend the National Final earned the right to represent the region after having won the regional finals in their respective disciplines. “More than 10,000 students from Ñuble participated from the community, provincial and regional stages, including public, subsidized and private schools. We are proud to say that the School Sports Games were present in the 21 communes of Ñuble,” said Seremi Jorquera.

The Ministry of Sports, through the National Institute of Sports, allocates 5,650 million pesos to finance the logistics of the School Sports Games at the national level, from the implementation to carry out the competitions in all their stages, to the payment of the resource human resources, transfers, competition clothing, hotels and food for all the athletes who attend the National Final.
