Casper Ruud Exits US Open as Djokovic and Wozniacki March On

Casper Ruud (NOR-5) says goodbye to the US Open singles competition.

Last year’s Norwegian finalist is already defeated by the Chinese Zhizhen Zhang in round two after a thriller over five sets and 3:21 hours of play 4:6, 7:5, 2:6, 6:0, 2:6.

Ruud loses 1,155 world ranking points and slips to at least ninth position. Before the start of the tournament, the 24-year-old was fifth in the world rankings.

Djokovic continues safely, Fritz convinces

Novak Djokovic (SRB-2), on the other hand, has no problems.

Wozniacki continues winning streak

There is also a surprise in the women’s competition.

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki (DEN) continues her successful run against Czech Petra Kvitova, who is eleventh seeded, and wins 7:5, 7:6 (5). The Dane is only contesting her third tournament after her comeback, which she made after more than three years.

World number one Iga Swiatek (POL) defeated Daria Saville from Australia 6:3, 6:4, Coco Gauff (USA) won 6:3, 6:2 against 16-year-old Russian Mira Andreeva.
