Carlos Alcaraz: The New Rising Star in Tennis, Facing Djokovic at US Open

Speaking to media representatives, McEnroe also gushed about the 20-year-old Spaniard: “What Alcaraz has achieved over the last year is unbelievable. He has put himself in a position where he is talked about in the same way as Novak and Rafa (Nadal), which is incredible.”

For the seven-time Grand Slam winner, Alcaraz is “the best player I’ve ever seen his age. It’s incredible how good he is.”

With Djokovic, on the other hand, it is impressive “that he is still so good at this age”. The 36-year-old also underlined his fitness in the extreme heat in the final in Cincinnati.

“He somehow found a way,” analyzed the Eurosport expert: “The way he looks, he can continue for three to four years.”

Carlos Alcaraz as defending champion at US Open

It is “hard to believe that someone of this age can still be as good as he is. That has never happened before.”

The last duels between number one and number two in the ranking list were “tight and incredible matches”: “Let’s hope it continues like this.”

Alcaraz travels to New York as the defending champion. It will be Djokovic’s first appearance at the US Open since 2021. The Serb could win his fourth title in Flushing Meadows. In a direct duel this year, Alcaraz won in Madrid and Wimbledon, Djokovic emerged victorious at the French Open and in Cincinnati.
