The last 20-year-old player to be the No. 1 seed at the US Open was Australia’s Ashley Cooper in 1957. The former player, winner of four Grand Slam tournaments, reached the final of that event but lost the title to his compatriot Mal Anderson.

Some other players who were very close to this feat in these almost seven decades were: Lleyton Hewitt in 2002 and Bjorn Borg in 1977. Both the Australian and the Swede were 21 when they did it.
