Bryan Heynen Suffers Injury, Out for Several Weeks in Champions League and Europa League Matches

Bryan Heynen’s match in the Champions League preliminary round against Servette lasted less than three minutes. The captain of KRC Genk had to be taken away on a stretcher after a horror tackle.

At first it was feared that Heynen would be out for months. On Wednesday it became clear that no fractures had been detected, but on Thursday evening an MRI revealed an injury to the ligaments of the left ankle.

Heynen will therefore be out for several weeks. “Every day is one too many, but a few months have already been reduced to a few weeks after further research,” the club website says. “Speedy recovery, capi!”

Genk will have to do without its captain against Eupen on Saturday in the competition. And the third preliminary round of the Europa League against Olympiakos will also have to do without Heynen.
