Fifth medal of the Spanish team in the Glasgow multi-event

The Spanish Paralympic track cycling team achieved its fifth medal on Tuesday in the World Championships, which are being held in Glasgow (Scotland), thanks to the bronze obtained by Ricardo Ten, Pablo Jaramillo and Alfonso Cabello in the team speed test .
The Spanish trio, medalists in the last Tokyo 2020 Games, did a time of 50,429 in the morning qualifying and with this they got the ticket for the final B for the bronze. In said battle, developed in the afternoon session, the French team lost to Ten, Jaramillo and Cabello (authors of a 49.579).
“We are very happy because we have achieved a time very similar to what we did in Tokyo, when the three of us were at our highest level, so this allows us to be optimistic for the next Paralympic Games in Paris,” Cabello said at the end, in statements collected by the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC).
TORRES AND MORA FINISH EIGHTH IN LA MADISON
The afternoon session at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome also included the men’s madison race, one of the events that always arouses the most attention in a World Championship and for which Albert Torres and Sebastián Mora started as podium contenders .
The Spanish duo faced this test with the tactic of letting go of the initial sprints, to take advantage of their moment after halfway through the competition. With about 70 laps to go, Torres and Mora launched an attack that distanced them from the pack, putting up a nice fight that helped them win two consecutive sprints.
But his strategy did not find the prize of 20 points for winning the lap, since the speed of the peloton prevented it. Finally, Torres and Mora added a total of 14 points to be eighth in a race that crowned the Netherlands (Van Schip-Havik) with 37 points. Second place went to Great Britain (Wood-Stewart), with 35 points, and third to New Zealand (Gates-Stewart), who scored 33 points.
Another great event of the day was the kilometer time trial, a test in which Alejandro Martínez has established himself as one of the great specialists in the world in recent years. The man from Alicante earned his place in the final as eighth, with a time of 1:00.183. Already in the fight for the medals, with 1: 00.192 he settled for the eighth position. Pepe Moreno, meanwhile, finished 21st with a time of 1:01.950 in qualifying.
In addition, Ziortza Isasi was the only Spanish woman to compete during this penultimate day of the velodrome. The Basque finished in 18th place (-19 pts.) the scoring test, won by the Belgian Lotte Kopecky (39 pts.); Australia’s Georgia Baker (31 pts.) took silver and Japan’s Tsuyaka Uchino (14 pts.) took bronze.
