Borussia Mönchengladbach signed the target striker Jordan Siebatcheu on the home stretch of the transfer window. The change was officially announced on Thursday afternoon, previously the 27-year-old had already taken part in Gladbach’s training in consultation with Union Berlin. The final contractual terms were then clarified before the transfer was announced at 1 p.m.
“Jordan is a classic centre-forward,” said sporting director Roland Virkus. “He’s an anchor player up front, someone who can pin balls. A Bundesliga-experienced man who will do our offensive well.” Coach Gerardo Seoane said at the press conference before the duel with FC Bayern on Saturday (6:30 p.m., Sky): “It’s good that we managed this loan. He’s a physical striker, has good headers for his size and is someone who feels comfortable in the box. I know him from the time in Bern, where he scored a lot of goals.”
Siebatcheu scored 15 goals in 43 competitive games under the Swiss coach. The attacker scored a total of 42 goals in 88 games for the Youn Boys before moving to Union Berlin last summer for around six million euros. “He doesn’t need a long period of adjustment because he knows the league, that’s good. With him we have a good alternative to Tomas, but it’s also possible that both will be on the pitch at the same time,” said Seoane.
“Hi, this is Jordan. I’m here now and looking forward to seeing you at the stadium on Saturday,” Siebatcheu said in a short video that Borussia released after the announcement. Siebatcheu held the jersey with the number 13 in his hand – he inherited the number from ex-captain Lars Stindl, who returned to Karlsruher SC this summer.
Getting a back-up for centre-forward Tomas Cvancara has been at the top of Borussia’s to-do list until 1 September since Maximilian Wöber was last signed on loan on 31 July. Now it works with Jordan, as the American who grew up in France wants to be called, even without further transfer income.
Because Nico Elvedi is currently not moving, so the Swiss could stay with Borussia beyond the “Deadline Day”. Then all parties would have to sit down and discuss how to proceed for the Swiss, whose contract currently expires in 2024.
As the Danish newspaper “BT” first wrote, Borussia will sign another player alongside Jordan. Jonathan Foss is 19 years old, the central defender with a strong left foot only switched from Odense BK to FC Brugge a year ago. So far he has not been used for the professionals there, but only for the second representation, which runs under the name Club NXT in the second Belgian league.
According to information from our editorial team, Foss was already in talks at Borussia Park on Wednesday. He is planned for the U23s by coach Eugen Polanski, who are currently having to compensate for a few defensive failures. So Noah Andreas and Phil Kemper recently had to help out in central defence. Foss had already played a part in the training camp of the under-23s in Barsinghausen against SV Drochtersen/Assel – and apparently convinced those responsible.
