Blows against the heat: this was the day in the LA NUEVA ESPAÑA Tournament

The second day of the XIX La Nueva España Tournament, Unicaja Banco Trophy, took place with heat and a light wind that mitigated it until six in the afternoon, when the weather began to change with the arrival of strong winds and threatening rain clouds who did not make an appearance and only lasted a little over half an hour. The conditions did not alter the good game in a tournament that warms up engines and that yesterday left great moments of golf.

Especially good was the result achieved in the second category by the couple Alejandro Álvarez Moro and Juan Pastor Fernández, Castiello’s players from Gijón, who played with a handicap of 22 and who completed their tour with 48 stableford points, after a magnificent round where they did not have a single chance. he only failed in the 18 holes and managed to be the best couple of the day: “We were lucky not to have any setbacks, the tee times were long and Juan was very precise with his putt”, commented Álvarez Moro at the end of his round with Rosana Pozo and Francisco Lorente from Aviles, who did not have their day despite being favorites.

Carlos Manuel Castaño Rivero and Ángel Pedro González Castellanos signed another excellent result with 46 points and a tour where they scored on all holes and placed second. Second-placed Gonzalo Martinez Lopez and Pedro Rodriguez Valdes remain.

Julia Izquierdo Navarro executes her shot on hole 10, under the gaze of her teammates Javier Rubio Delgado, Rodrigo Martínez Casado and Hans Sarmiento Núñez.

The best couple of the second day in the first category were the Barganiza sub-21s: Valentina Gallart Martínez and Gabriela Gallart Noval, who completed their tour with 39 points.

Among the many participants from other communities were Luis Ares Montes and Óscar Moles Vilella, from Zaragoza who decided to play in the tournament because of their popularity. “This past weekend we played the Mondariz Spa Summer Championship and my partner was the scratch winner of it. Later we played in the field of A Zapateira, in Coruña. On the way back we decided to stop in Gijón to see the field and train on Tuesday in La Llorea and if it was feasible to sign up”, Luis commented at the end of his tour. “We are very happy with having been in Gijón these two days and playing this tournament, which we We wanted it,” they said. As a general trend, the players highlighted the great state of the field.

Today 142 players participate and the high handicaps come out first, being Omar Rodríguez González and Gonzalo Álvarez Rodríguez; José Álvarez Pérez and Juan de la Vega Fernández, those in charge of opening the day at 8.30 in the morning.

The Pace of Play Policy and a Code of Conduct implemented by the Competition Committee, to facilitate the game and not create traffic jams on the course, is giving results and the delays in the game are minimal. For this reason, players are recommended to check their timetables at the La Llorea facilities or on the Gijón Municipal Golf website, to avoid penalties. Likewise, the Competition Committee requests the collaboration of the players, that they take care of the field during their tour and comply with the rules for the replacement of “chops” and arrangement of “piques”.
