With nine new players, the BG Göttingen started the preparatory phase for their 15th season in the basketball Bundesliga with the first training session on Tuesday.
Goettingen – On Wednesday afternoon, the violets invited the press to their “Media Day” and were repositioned from A(nticevich) to Z(ugic).
But not only the nine players are new, but also head coach Olivier Foucart (previously assistant to Roel Moors, who moved to Bonn) and his new assistant coach Kenneth Desloovere, also a Belgian. Training started at 10 a.m., from 11.30 a.m. the journalists were allowed to watch for another half hour. And things got down to business – but without the previous captain Harper Kamp, who is on the verge of a complete recovery after his injury in the second playoff in Munich and did gymnastics off the beaten track, and Deondre Burns, who was planned as a pointguard, who twisted his ankle in the first training session and was treated by BG-Physio Uwe Klassen.
How does Coach Foucart see the new BG? “I have a good impression of the new team. The aim was to improve the team chemistry and slowly improve mentality and intensity. The players should now get to know their roles. It’s important that they fit together as people and also into the culture of the club.”
Osaro Rich, who revealed in the first interview that his middle name Jürgen came from the fact that his Nigerian father was a fan of ex-soccer player Jürgen Klinsmann, and Zach Ensminger were enthusiastic about the training conditions in the “Sartorius Lab”. It was important for her decision to come to Göttingen that the BG played internationally. They are particularly looking forward to the violet fans. The newcomers were delighted to receive a warm welcome from fans on social media. Everyone else also praised the club’s professionalism.
Interesting: With Fedor Zugic (Ulm) and Zach Ensminger (Bonn), whose father Chris became a basketball legend, the Goettingen-based team have strengthened themselves with a German champion and a runner-up. In the next ten days, a lot of training sweat will flow until the first test at the MBC in Halle/Saale. (Helmut Anschütz and Walter Gleitze/gsd)
That’s what the new players say
. Osaro Jürgen Rich: “I want to take the next step with BG to establish myself in the Bundesliga. Internationally it will be more of a burden for the team. I’m trying to move myself and the team forward. Coach Foucart is doing a good job. There are great guys on the team. I like Göttingen, everything is close together.
. Zach Ensminger: “I had good conversations with coach Foucart and heard a lot of good things about Göttingen. It was easy to say to take the next step here. I learned a lot in Bonn, I want to show that. I’m curious to see what the S Arena looks like. The training opportunities are great, everything is perfectly organized. So far it’s great fun. I’ve been to the city once or twice, saw the Gänseliesel fountain. Crazy how many bikes are in front of the train station. As a driver you have to be careful. The coaches ask a lot and challenge us.
. Deondre Burns: “Everything is perfectly organized here. It was also important for me that Göttingen will play internationally.”
. Karlis Silins: “It’s really good that my friend Paula can play for the BG 74 women. In the photo of us that was in the newspaper, I’m wearing a crown of oak leaves. This is how we celebrate the longest day of the year on June 22nd in Latvia.”
. Fedor Zugic: “It’s really unbelievable that I became German champion with Ulm. But now I wanted to have more freedom to play, which I haven’t had lately.” wg/haz-gsd
