Jan-Christian Dreesen has been the new CEO of FC Bayern Munich since May 27, 2023, succeeding Oliver Kahn – and has had a lot to do in this function. First and foremost, of course, the implementation of the new signings this summer.

“The first few weeks were very exhausting, really really exhausting,” admitted Dreesen on Friday evening before the opening game in Bremen in an interview with DAZN, but added directly: “Basically, I think we can draw a good conclusion. We have a few right exciting new additions.”

In this breath, the 55-year-old named the personal details of Raphael Guerreiro (formerly BVB), Min-Jae Kim (new signing from Italy’s champions Napoli), Konrad Laimer (ex-Leipzig) – and: “Especially Harry Kane, on whom the Bundesliga spectators can look forward to.”

“We reached for the ceiling”

In his statement on the 110 million euro man, Dreesen explained again in detail why the reigning champions agreed to this sum – and what feelings it triggered and continues to trigger.

“Proud is the wrong term. I’m just happy that we managed to get the English captain of the national team here in Germany and in the Bundesliga,” said the CEO. “It’s a great story and shows that the Bundesliga still has appeal. Of course, we reached for the roof.”

Because 100 million euros is not the new norm, as he recently said about the expensive signing of Tottenham Hotspur – not even for the German record champions.

“Overall a good idea”

The club and Dreesen themselves feel good about this investment “but because we’ve always said that we only spend what we earn – and we’ve put a little something aside in recent years.” And Kane is, Dreesen emphasized again, “a good investment. We’re buying a striker who’s up to date.”

Dreesen recalled Robert Lewandowski, who scored countless goals in the six-title year under Hansi Flick at the age of 32 and was in top form. Kane, according to Dreesen, is “only 30. So I think it fits perfectly – he’s a super fit for us. He’s a great player and not only the first on the training ground, but also fits in with the attitude super, is incredibly approachable.”

In short, the CEO concludes: “Overall, it was a good idea to get him.”
